Legal Assistance For Seniors' 20th Conference on Elder Abuse

Our founder, Anisa Chandra, recently attended Legal Assistance for Seniors’ 20th Conference on Elder Abuse as a representative of The Sunshine Squad! As The Sunshine Squad branches out from nursing home crafts into elder abuse advocacy, attending this conference was an incredible opportunity to network with professionals in the field. We’re so thankful for this opportunity!

What's next?

Currently, we're working on fighting budget cuts that have been done towards nonprofit groups fighting against elder abuse. Most of these funding cuts have come as a result of the current government adminstration, and as a result, advocacy in this department is more difficult and necessary than ever. If you're interested, consider writing a letter to your legislators, hosting a small presentation about this topic to friends and family, or reaching out to a nonprofit group! All three of these methods are great, safe ways to stand up for older adults right now.

Elder Abuse Game "Night"

The Sunshine Squad had the honor of partnering with the CEJC (California Elder Justice Coalition) in celebration of Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15th! We did so by hosting an elder-abuse-themed game "night", at which residents at Plum Tree Nursing Home were educated about their rights through fun games. We loved this experience, and thought it was an incredible way to make education about the dangers of elder abuse interesting and fun!
